Abstract:General Secretary Xi's important expounding on the working class and trade union work provides fundamental guidance for the CPC's work in this field and puts forward the demands for the construction of the first-level discipline of trade union studies. The construction of the first-level discipline of trade union studies is directly related to the high-quality development of trade union work and the construction of the social science system of philosophy with Chinese characteristics, which is a strategic requirement for organizing and mobilizing hundreds of millions of workers to contribute themselves to the great cause of national rejuvenation. The century-long history of the labor movement under the leadership of the CPC, the talent cultivation and theoretical research of trade union studies for a long time, and a full variety of practice of trade union work provide both historical and academic accumulations, and practical foundations for establishing the first-level discipline of trade union studies, and also shape the unique character of trade union studies from other disciplines. To construct a first-level discipline of trade union studies, it is necessary to improve the top-level design of the discipline from aspects of discipline orientation, interdisciplinary intersection, and discipline system. Thus, the first-level discipline of trade union studies can be set out in the field of law, and continually promote the cross-fusion of social sciences, political science, law, economics, and Marxist theory with it. Following the principles of scientific, logical, and sustainable construction, a discipline system consisting of four second-level disciplines of theoretical trade union studies, labor science and technology, applied trade union studies, and labor education can be constructed. As colleges and universities of the types are the main body of characteristic discipline construction, the high-quality development of the tertiary institutions will also be guided by the promotion and upgrading of characteristic discipline construction.
